Alcatraz Island's recreation yard hosted one of the most unusual baseball diamonds in American history. Established around 1938 in San Francisco Bay, the field gave inmates at America's most notorious federal penitentiary a brief taste of normalcy amid concrete and steel. Some of the country's most dangerous men found their only freedom between those baselines. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
