South Bend's Green Stockings took the diamond in 1888 as part of Indiana's State League. Before the major leagues monopolized the national pastime, small-city clubs like these were the soul of their towns. Entire communities gathered on summer afternoons, bound together by nothing more than a ball and a prayer. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
