Waco's Pirates joined the Big State League in 1948, carrying the torch for minor league ball in central Texas. Small town clubs like these were the backbone of postwar baseball, giving young players a proving ground and cities something to rally around. Even brief franchises left their mark on the communities that loved them. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
