Cromwell Hotel stood right on the ocean at 20th Street in Miami Beach, rising during the 1940s when air conditioning was still a luxury worth advertising. That stretch of beach was becoming the vacation capital of postwar America. Places like this helped shape Miami Beach into the destination it remains today.
