Opening in 1946 on a dusty stretch of highway that would become the Las Vegas Strip, the Flamingo Hotel helped invent the idea of the desert resort. Postwar America was hungry for glamour, and the Flamingo gave it somewhere to land. Long before the megaresorts, it proved Las Vegas could be a destination, not just a stopover. Part of our Vintage Las Vegas collection, celebrating the defunct golden era venues of yesteryear.
