La Concha Motel opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 1961, a humble stopover among the grand resorts. Its lobby was the work of a pioneering Black architect. Families and road-trippers found an affordable bed in the center of the action. Rescued in 2006, it now greets visitors to the Neon Museum, a survivor of the Strip's vanished past. Part of our Vintage Las Vegas collection, celebrating the defunct golden era venues of yesteryear.
The Details:
Black brush-stroke arches form a shell-like roofline with red-orange diamond lattice fill, red-orange sans-serif "MOTEL," and scattered red-orange starbursts. Black hand-lettered script reads "La Concha" above thick distressed and thin red-orange bars. Retro script reads '"In the Center of the Strip"' above bold black sans-serif "LAS VEGAS, NEVADA."
