Moulin Rouge opened in 1955 in West Las Vegas as the city's first integrated hotel and casino. While Strip resorts barred Black guests, it welcomed everyone through the same door. Headliners who performed on the Strip but couldn't sleep there packed its late shows. Shuttered within months, the Moulin Rouge still helped open Las Vegas to all. Part of our Vintage Las Vegas collection, celebrating the defunct golden era venues of yesteryear.
The Details:
White circular chip graphic frames a red hand-drawn can-can dancer in a feathered hat, surrounded by small black stars and red splatter texture. Black brush-script text reads "Moulin Rouge" above sans-serif "LAS VEGAS NEVADA," with "HOTEL" and "CASINO" curving along the sides. Red serif "$5" with black outlining sits at bottom center.
