Opening in 1955 on the Las Vegas Strip, the Riviera was the first high-rise to break the desert skyline. Sin City was trading dusty western motifs for big-city glamour, and the Riviera led the way. Six decades of headliners made its showroom a cornerstone of American nightlife until the lights went dark in 2015. Some landmarks outlive their buildings.
