Makai Room on Venice Boulevard was Mar Vista's gateway to the South Pacific during the mid-century tiki craze that swept Los Angeles. Polynesian cocktail culture gave every neighborhood its own escape. Some bars served drinks, but places like this transported entire communities to another world.
