Tiki bars like Don the Beachcomber, Kelbo's, and Bahooka turned Los Angeles into the capital of Polynesian escape from the 1930s through the 1960s. Returning servicemen and Hollywood dreamers alike found a South Seas paradise behind those doors. Ordering a Zombie meant joining a ritual. Most of these rooms are gone now, but their spirit never left the city. Part of our Vintage Tiki collection, celebrating the defunct golden era bars of yesteryear.
The Details:
Tiki idols and distressed hand-drawn restaurant logos repeat in yellow, coral, orange, cream, and blue, reading "the islander," "DON THE BEACHCOMBER," "KELBO'S," "CHI-CHI," and "THE LUAU." Pineapples, palm trees, wave lines, a hula girl, and a horned tiki figure beside a "ZOMBIE" glass fill the gaps.
The Specs:
