The Penguin Coffee Shop operated at 926 Market Street in San Francisco, inside the Telenews Building from the 1940s onward. Market Street was the city's commercial spine, and lunch counters like this one fed the crowds between newsreels and errands. Some places nourished a neighborhood simply by keeping the coffee hot and the stools warm.
