Cairo's Egyptians took the diamond in 1897 as part of the Central League, bringing Class C baseball to the southern tip of Illinois. Nestled where the Ohio meets the Mississippi, Cairo was a river town that punched above its weight. Minor league ball gave that small community something to rally around when the century was still young. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
