Cooleemee fielded a Cards squad in North Carolina's Class D State League during the 1937 season. A tiny mill village with barely a thousand souls, it proved that small-town devotion to baseball ran deep across the Carolina Piedmont. Some communities were too proud and too stubborn not to have their own team. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
