Diamond Head brought authentic Polynesian escape to Route 1 in Saugus during the height of America's tiki craze in the 1960s and 70s. This legendary watering hole served tropical cocktails and exotic atmosphere to Boston-area locals looking for a slice of paradise without leaving Massachusetts. Located on the bustling commercial strip of Route 1, Diamond Head became a beloved destination where patrons could sip mai tais under bamboo décor and tiki totems, creating memories that lasted long after the last call at 3 AM. The establishment represented the golden age of suburban tiki culture, when every neighborhood seemed to have its own little piece of the South Pacific. Part of our Vintage Tiki collection, celebrating the defunct golden era bars of yesteryear.
The Details:
Bold serif typography displays "DIAMOND" prominently with "YEAR" and "96 BROADWAY • RT.1 • SAUGUS, MASS." alongside "OPEN DAILY 11A.M. TO 3A.M." in smaller complementary lettering. The central graphic features a detailed hand-drawn Native American chief portrait with an elaborate feathered headdress positioned beside mountain landscape elements, rendered in vintage line art style. The design utilizes a warm red and brown color palette with nostalgic 1970s-80s Americana aesthetic and distressed finish effects.
