Hartford's Dark Blues took the field in 1876 as charter members of the National League, making Connecticut home to professional baseball from the very start. Playing in Hartford during the league's founding season carried a weight few cities could claim. Before the sport belonged to New York and Chicago, it belonged to towns like this.
