Hotel Stowell stood on South Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles during the early 1900s, when the corridor served as the city's financial and commercial nerve center. Spring Street hotels housed travelers drawn to a booming metropolis still defining itself. Places like the Stowell gave Los Angeles its first sense of metropolitan permanence.
