Jade Isle brought the South Pacific to suburban Scotch Plains, New Jersey, during the tiki craze of the 1960s. Polynesian-Chinese restaurants like this gave small town America something exotic beyond the usual Friday night. Celebrations happened over mai tais and pu pu platters, and the neighborhood never forgot it.
