Kona Lanes opened its doors in Costa Mesa during the 1960s bowling boom, when sleek mid-century alleys were sprouting across Southern California's suburban landscape. Located in the heart of Orange County, this family-owned establishment became a cornerstone of the community through the groovy '70s and beyond, serving as both a serious bowling destination and a social hub for locals. The alley embodied the classic California bowling culture of the era, where families gathered for Saturday afternoon games and leagues competed under the glow of vintage neon signs. Kona Lanes represented the golden age of American bowling, when striking out meant something entirely different and every neighborhood had its own lanes where memories were made one frame at a time.
