Marquette's Undertakers took the field in Michigan's Upper Peninsula starting in 1890, carrying a name only a rugged mining town would dare claim. Independent baseball clubs were the social glue of remote northern communities. Long before radio, these teams gave hardworking people something to gather around and believe in.
