Mesa Lanes stood at 1703 Superior in Costa Mesa, a gathering place where league bowlers and cocktail lounge regulars shared the same roof. Equipped with AMF lanes, it carried the mid-century tradition of bowling as community ritual. Places like this, built through the 1950s and 1960s, gave Southern California neighborhoods a place to belong. Part of our Retro Bowling collection, featuring the defunct alleys of yesteryear.
The Details:
Maroon text reads "1703 SUPERIOR, COSTA MESA, CA" above bold arched serif lettering reading "MESA LANES." Below, a distressed orange and maroon bowling ball marked "20" and "AMF LANES" strikes scattered pins, with radiating impact lines behind it. Maroon and orange retro text reads "COCKTAIL LOUNGE AND COFFEE SHOP."
