Mission's Grapefruiters took the field in 1926, carrying the name of the crop that built the Rio Grande Valley. Playing Class D ball in the Gulf Coast League, they represented a small Texas town where citrus farming and baseball were twin sources of pride. Some teams are remembered not for championships, but for belonging wholly to a place. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched salmon-pink distressed serif text reads "GRAPEFRUITERS" above a cartoon anthropomorphic grapefruit character rendered in golden-yellow, wearing a small cap with baseball stitching across its body, shown mid-stride. Cream block serif text reads "BASEBALL CLUB" with smaller cream sans-serif text reading "MISSION, TX | GULF COAST LEAGUE | CLASS D" below. Golden-yellow cursive script reads "Established 1926" at the bottom.
