New Haven's Texas Steers rode onto the diamond in 1896 as part of the ambitious Atlantic League, bringing professional baseball to a Connecticut city steeped in collegiate tradition. The club burned bright but brief, part of a wave of independent leagues challenging organized baseball's grip. Some teams endure for decades, others matter simply because they dared to exist. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed white text reads "TEXAS STEERS" across the top of a circular emblem. A blue and white saltire pattern frames a gold circular center containing a blue cartoon steer with a baseball, flanked by gold text reading "ESTD" and "1896." Curved blue text along the inner ring reads "NEW HAVEN, CONN.," "ATLANTIC LEAGUE," and "BASEBALL CLUB."
