Portland's Phenoms joined the New England League as a Class F club in 1899. Minor league baseball was the lifeblood of small coastal cities across Maine in that era. Every summer evening, dockworkers and merchants gathered at the ballpark, bound together by the crack of a bat. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed charcoal serif text reads "PHENOMS" above a woodcut-style illustration of a batter in a late-1800s uniform mid-swing, overlapping large muted olive numerals "1899." Smaller charcoal block text below reads "NEW ENGLAND LEAGUE," "CLASS F," and "BASEBALL CLUB • PORTLAND ME."
