Salem's Witches took the diamond in 1888 as part of the New England League, carrying a name only that Massachusetts city could claim. Rooted in Lowell and Salem, the club belonged to an era when minor league baseball was the soul of small town identity. Some teams fade from record books but never from local memory. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
A circular emblem reading "NEW ENGLAND LEAGUE" surrounds a baseball beside a golden-tan cartoon witch in a pointed hat and uniform swinging a bat. Distressed white Western-style text reads "SALEM" and large Gothic text reads "WITCHES" below. Smaller distressed text reads "BASEBALL CLUB," "Lowell, Mass," "ESTABLISHED," and "1888" in mixed serif and script lettering.
