Springfield's Ponies joined the Eastern League in 1893, bringing Class A baseball to western Massachusetts when minor league towns lived and died by every box score. Clubs like the Ponies weren't feeder teams or farm affiliates. They were the game itself for Springfield.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
