Opening in 1948 as only the fourth resort on the Las Vegas Strip, the Thunderbird arrived when that desert highway was still more promise than boulevard. Borrowing its name from Southwestern legend, it tied postwar glamour to the land beneath it. Crowds filled its showroom and tables for nearly three decades.
