The Tikis stood as Monterey Park's slice of Polynesian paradise during the height of California's tiki craze in the 1960s and 70s. Located on North Potrero Grande Drive, this authentic tiki bar transported guests from the suburban San Gabriel Valley straight to an exotic South Pacific hideaway, complete with carved totems and tropical cocktails served in ceramic mugs. While the Polynesian pop movement swept across Southern California, The Tikis carved out its own legendary status among locals who craved an escape from everyday life without leaving Los Angeles County. This establishment represented the golden age of tiki culture, when bamboo bars and rum-fueled adventures defined weekend entertainment for a generation seeking adventure in their own backyard.
