Waikiki's legendary Waikikian opened in 1956 as a Polynesian-themed escape on the shores of Oahu. Built during Hawaii's mid-century tourism boom, it stood apart as an intimate retreat amid the growing high-rise corridor. Some hotels defined a neighborhood, but the Waikikian captured a vanishing version of island hospitality before commercialization reshaped the coastline forever. Part of our Retro Hotel collection, featuring the iconic locations of yesteryear.
