Wichita's Aviators took the field in 1929 as a Class A Western League club, carrying a name that honored Kansas as the air capital of the world. Baseball and aviation were twin sources of pride in Wichita during that era. Some teams represent a city, but the Aviators captured an entire identity. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
