Wilkes-Barre's Coal Barons took the field in 1887 as part of the International Association, representing a Pennsylvania mining city that lived and breathed anthracite. Baseball and coal built that town's identity in equal measure. Some clubs are remembered for championships, but the Coal Barons endured as a symbol of working-class pride in the Wyoming Valley.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
