Castaways Hotel and Casino brought the South Seas to the Las Vegas Strip in 1963. Tiki culture was sweeping postwar America, and this Polynesian resort offered an island escape in the desert. Closing in 1987, it gave way to the megaresort era. Some places fade from the skyline, but never from memory. Part of our Vintage Las Vegas collection, celebrating the defunct golden era venues of yesteryear.
The Details:
Sign tower illustration in distressed orange and white, ringed by green cloud outlines, shows a boat-shaped "Castaways" banner and ovals reading "HOTEL," "CASINO," and "restaurant." White script "the" and capitals reading "HOTEL CASINO RESTAURANT" flank the lower tower. Hand-lettered orange "Castaways" sits above green "LAS VEGAS, NEVADA."
