Civic Lanes stood on Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica during the mid-century boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Bowling alleys like this one were community anchors, gathering places where neighbors met weekly under soaring rooflines. Some buildings defined an era just by standing there, and Civic Lanes was one of them. Part of our Retro Bowling collection, featuring the defunct alleys of yesteryear.
The Details:
Cursive mint-green script reads "Civic" above bold red block letters "LANES." A mid-century Googie-style illustration in mint green, red, black, and gray depicts a low-slung modernist building with a tall vertical sign reading "BOWL," flanked by palm trees and small birds. Gray sans-serif text below reads "234 PICO BOULEVARD" above "SANTA MONICA, CALIF."
