Thunderbird Hotel opened in 1948 as just the fourth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. Named for a legendary bringer of storms, it rose from open desert as postwar America turned its eyes west. Long before the megaresorts arrived, places like this built the town's reputation one night at a time.
