The Colony restaurant held court inside Kansas City's Ambassador Hotel on Broadway at 36th, a gathering place that defined mid-century dining in the city. Opening during the 1950s, it carried the polish and ambition of an era when hotel lounges were cultural landmarks. Some rooms just held that kind of gravity.

The Details:
