Tiki Bob's stood as one of San Francisco's most beloved Polynesian escapes during the city's mid-century tiki boom of the 1950s and 1960s. Located at the bustling intersection of Post and Taylor Streets in the heart of downtown, this exotic hideaway transported visitors from the foggy streets of the city to a tropical paradise complete with bamboo décor, mysterious carved idols, and potent rum concoctions. The establishment was part of the broader Polynesian pop culture movement that swept across America following World War II, as veterans returned with tales of Pacific islands and Hollywood romanticized tropical life.
