Kapu Kai transformed a stretch of Cucamonga into an exotic Polynesian escape during the height of America's tiki bar craze in the 1960s. This legendary establishment brought the mystique of the South Pacific to Southern California's Inland Empire, complete with bamboo architecture, tropical cocktails, and the intoxicating sounds of Hawaiian steel guitar. As one of the region's premier tiki destinations, Kapu Kai became a cultural phenomenon where locals and travelers alike could experience an authentic taste of island paradise without leaving the mainland. The bar's authentic Polynesian atmosphere and signature rum concoctions made it a cornerstone of California's mid-century tiki movement. The Details:
Bold sans-serif typography in orange displays "A POLYNESIAN PARADISE, CUCAMONGA, CA" with the letters "KA, PU, KAI" featured prominently. The design showcases a fierce tribal tiki mask with spiky headdress and extended red tongue alongside four vertical totem poles, each topped with distinct carved faces and geometric diamond or circular elements bearing the individual letters. The artwork employs a striking black and white tribal illustration style with selective orange and red accent colors for dramatic contrast.
