Apple Valley Steak House held down its corner at 733 E. Broadway in Long Beach for decades, starting in the mid-twentieth century. Steakhouses like this one were neighborhood anchors, places where regulars knew the staff by name. Long before chain restaurants homogenized every block, spots like Apple Valley gave a city its character.
