Appleton's Papermakers took the field in 1909 as part of the Wisconsin-Illinois League, a Class D club born in a mill town where paper was king. Baseball gave Appleton something beyond industry, a shared identity on summer evenings. Small-town minor league clubs like this one were the soul of their communities.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Distressed blue cursive text reads "Appleton, Wis." above "Est. 1909" at the top. A vintage hand-drawn baseball player in a batting stance appears beside a small apple reading "TON," with bold serif text reading "Papermakers" and a decorative swoosh below. Block blue text reads "WISCONSIN ILLINOIS LEAGUE, CLASS D BASEBALL."
