Baker City's Gold Diggers took the diamond in 1902 as part of Oregon's Inland Empire League. Organized baseball arrived in a small mining town still buzzing from the gold rush era. Baseball and prospecting shared the same stubborn optimism, and this club carried both traditions. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Golden-yellow arched text reads "INLAND EMPIRE LEAGUE" above "ESTD." and large block numerals "1902," with "BAKER CITY," in smaller letters below. A distressed golden-yellow illustration of a prospector-styled batter in a batting stance appears to the left. Flowing cursive script reads "Gold Diggers" with a swoosh underline, above "Baker City, Oregon" in small serif type.
