Cleveland's Spiders joined the American Association in 1887 and became one of baseball's most storied franchises in Ohio. By the 1890s they fielded some of the era's finest talent and battled fiercely in the National League. Their tragic dismantling before the 1900 season remains one of professional baseball's darkest chapters. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
