Evansville's Hoosiers took the field in 1889 as members of the Central Inter-State League, a minor league circuit scattered across the Midwest. Baseball in that era was a river town's Sunday religion, and Evansville, Indiana answered along the Ohio. The club did not last, but it gave a working city a team to claim as its own. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
