Grand Forks fielded the Flickertails in the Central International League starting in 1912, bringing Class C baseball to the North Dakota prairie. Named after the Richardson ground squirrel native to the region, the club gave a small city something to rally around on summer evenings. Minor league ball in towns like Grand Forks was the soul of American baseball.
