Saint Paul's Red Caps took the diamond in 1877 as part of the League Alliance, one of professional baseball's earliest organizing bodies. Minnesota baseball had deep roots long before the Twins arrived. The Red Caps represented a frontier city staking its claim in America's young national pastime, proving Saint Paul belonged on the national stage.
