Hannibal's Cannibals played in the Illinois-Missouri League starting in 1908, carrying the name of a river town already famous for Mark Twain. Minor league ball meant everything to small cities along the Mississippi then. Clubs like this gave working folks a reason to gather on summer evenings, binding a community to something larger than itself. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed white text reads "HANNIBAL" across the top and "CANNIBALS" across the bottom in bold serif lettering. A circular badge at center contains curved text reading "ILLINOIS-MISSOURI LEAGUE" above and "HANNIBAL, MISSOURI" below, with "BALL CLUB" flanking an interlocking "HC" monogram and small baseball motif. Weathered numerals "19" and "08" sit on either side of the badge.
