Kohala Mauna brought a taste of Polynesian escape to South Burlington, Vermont, blending Chinese cuisine with tiki culture during the mid-century craze of the 1960s. Places like this turned strip mall parking lots into tropical getaways. Every scorpion bowl and pu pu platter carried the promise of somewhere warmer.
