Ziegler's Charcoal House and Boom Boom Room stood as Lansing, Michigan's gateway to midcentury Polynesian escapism. Opening in the 1960s, it gave a Midwest college town a taste of tiki culture at its American peak. Some restaurants just fed you, but Ziegler's transported you somewhere else entirely.
