The Kon-Tiki opened its bamboo doors in Cleveland's Gordon Square neighborhood in 1961, becoming one of the Midwest's most authentic Polynesian escapes during the height of America's tiki craze. This beloved watering hole transported Clevelanders from the shores of Lake Erie to a tropical paradise, complete with carved tikis, thatch-covered walls, and rum cocktails that could make you forget the Ohio winter outside. For over two decades, the Kon-Tiki served as Cleveland's premier tiki destination, drawing locals and visitors alike with its exotic atmosphere and signature Scorpion Bowls. The bar finally closed its doors in the 1980s, but its legacy as Cleveland's slice of Polynesia lives on in the memories of those who experienced its island magic. Part of our Vintage Tiki collection, celebrating the defunct golden era bars of yesteryear.
The Details:
This vintage tiki bar design features distressed black ink in a woodcut block print style with casual sans-serif typography reading "Kon-Tiki" and "CLEVELAND, OHIO." The composition showcases a large Polynesian tiki statue head on the left with intricate carved details and a smaller companion tiki figure on the right, both rendered in bold black and white contrast. The weathered ink finish creates an authentic vintage aesthetic with rough, hand-carved texture throughout the illustrations.
