La Crosse fielded its Badgers in the Wisconsin State League starting in 1907, when Class D ball was the lifeblood of small river towns. That club gave working families along the Mississippi something to rally around on long summer evenings. Minor league baseball at that level wasn't about making it big, it was about belonging to something local and real. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
