Merced Bears took the field in 1941, bringing California League baseball to the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. During wartime and beyond, minor league clubs like this one gave small agricultural towns a shared identity and something to cheer for. Merced may have lost its team, but the memory of those summer nights never left. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
