Ocean Lanes was a cornerstone of Long Beach's recreational scene, serving bowlers along Ocean Boulevard near Magnolia Avenue for decades. This family-owned establishment flourished during the golden age of American bowling in the 1950s and 1960s, when leagues packed the lanes nightly and the sport reached peak popularity across California. The alley became a beloved gathering place where Long Beach residents celebrated strikes, splits, and the simple pleasure of rolling a perfect game. Ocean Lanes represented the community spirit of an era when neighborhood bowling alleys were the heart of local social life. Part of our Vintage Los Angeles collection, featuring the iconic local landmarks of yesteryear.
The Details:
The design features "Ocean" in elegant script lettering followed by "LANES" in bold sans-serif capitals, with "OCEAN BLVD. at MAGNOLIA" and "LONG BEACH, CALIF." displayed in smaller block text below. Stylized white wave curves create a decorative nautical element positioned between the text sections, adding flowing movement to the composition. The vintage-inspired typography combines script and sans-serif fonts with white and light blue ink creating clean contrast against the garment.
